Beverley Griffiths
Beverley Griffiths is a Senior Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University, specialising in emergency and disaster management, resilience, risk and public safety.
Prior to joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022, Beverley was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton’s Emergency Management and Resilience Centre, where she lectured on the MSc Emergency Planning, Resilience and Response programme. She previously worked with the Cabinet Office and Serco at the Emergency Planning College, leading a range of programmes and contributing to national guidance and standards.
Beverley has extensive operational and managerial experience across emergency management, health and public safety. She managed the Emergency Management and CCTV Unit at the London Borough of Hackney, where she was involved in the response to Operation Moonshadow, the longest UK siege. Her work during the incident earned her a Metropolitan Police commendation.
Her professional experience includes working with central and local government, international government, utilities and major organisations on resilience, organisational resilience, crisis management, cyber resilience, public safety, national guidance, standards and training. She has also contributed to resilience and emergency management projects associated with the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
Academically, Beverley holds a BSc in Development and Health in Disaster Management from Coventry University, an MSc in Emergency Planning, Resilience and Response and a PGCert in Academic Practice in Higher Education from the University of Wolverhampton. She also holds CBCI and NEBOSH qualifications and is currently undertaking a PhD researching ethical decision-making in emergency management.
Beverley is a Fellow of both the Emergency Planning Society (EPS) and the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management (ICPEM), as well as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Her specialist interests include emergency and disaster management, emergency planning, humanitarian assistance, risk and public safety, with a particular research interest in ethical decision-making during emergencies.
