Luavut Zahid
Luavut Zahid is a journalist, editor and researcher specialising in disasters, resilience, climate change, and crisis management.
She has served as Publishing Editor of the Crisis Response Journal since 2022, overseeing editorial strategy for one of the world's leading publications focused on emergencies, resilience, business continuity, and disaster response. Through her work, she collaborates with practitioners, policymakers, academics, and responders from around the world to explore the challenges facing communities before, during, and after crises.
She leads the publication, including commissioning, partnerships, and content development across its print and digital platforms. Prior to this role, she was the publication's South Asia Correspondent, having joined as Pakistan Correspondent in 2013.
A committed advocate for the next generation of media professionals, she has mentored and supported early-career journalists throughout her career, with a particular focus on women entering the field.
Luavut also co-founded the Khabaristan Times, Pakistan's first news satire platform. The outlet provided critical commentary on social and political issues and ran from 2014 to 2017 before being blocked by the Pakistani government as part of a broader crackdown on online expression and dissent.
Alongside her journalism, Luavut has worked extensively in media development and advocacy. She served as Global Co-ordinator for the New York-based Coalition for Women in Journalism, where she supported journalists and advanced press freedom initiatives worldwide. Luavut has authored and contributed to research, reports, and practical guides on media freedom, digital security, gender, and journalism, including publications for the Coalition for Women in Journalism and the Digital Rights Foundation.
Her writing and research focus on disasters, climate change, human rights, media freedom, and women's issues. She is an alumna of the FCDO Chevening South Asian Journalism Programme and regularly contributes to discussions on crisis communication, resilience, and the role of media in complex emergencies.
